Santander is offering 13-17 year olds £50 free cash for opening a 1|2|3 Mini Current Account and paying in £50.

The offer is pretty simple: open the account, pay in at least £50 within 31 days and Santander will add another £50 to your account.

Once you've paid in the £50 and Santander has confirmed you've met the deposit requirement, you can withdraw the £50 again.

You don't need to leave the £50 sitting in the account for the full 60 days.

Who can get the Santander £50?

You need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be aged 13-17 when the account is opened
  • Be a UK resident
  • Open a new Santander 1|2|3 Mini Current Account
  • Pay in at least £50 within 31 days of opening
  • Keep the account open until Santander makes the payment

There is also an important previous-account restriction.

You can't get the offer if you held a Santander 1|2|3 Mini Current Account or Santander 1|2|3 Mini in Trust Account during the promotional period.

The offer started on 1 September 2026 and Santander says it can withdraw or change the offer at any time.

What is the Santander 1|2|3 Mini Current Account?

It's a current account designed for children and teenagers, with no monthly fee.

A debit card is available from age 11, so 13-17 year olds can use the account to spend their own money in shops and online.

The account also pays interest on savings, with Santander currently offering rates of up to 3% AER/gross variable depending on the balance, on balances up to £2,000.

It's therefore more than just a way of getting the £50 bonus – it can also be used as a normal bank account for managing and saving money.

How does the £50 Santander offer work?

The important thing is that you don't need to spend the £50.

You simply need to get at least £50 into the new 1|2|3 Mini account within 31 days of opening it.

For example:

Open account → Pay in £50 → Santander adds £50 → £100 in the account

Santander says it will check the account 31 days after it was opened. If all the conditions have been met, the £50 payment will be made within 60 days.

The £50 payment is made directly into the eligible 1|2|3 Mini account.

What do you need to open the account?

If you're aged 13-17, you can apply online.

You'll need proof of identity and proof of address, using documents from different sources.

For example, Santander says you can use:

Proof of ID – one of:

  • UK or Irish passport
  • Birth or adoption certificate

Proof of address – one of:

  • A recent bank statement in your parent or guardian's name showing your address
  • Your parent or guardian's driving licence showing your address
  • A recent letter from your school or college

If your parent or guardian's surname is different from yours and you use their document as proof of address, Santander says you may also need your long-form birth or adoption certificate to prove your relationship.

What if you're under 13?

This particular £50 offer is for ages 13-17.

Santander does offer the 1|2|3 Mini Current Account to younger children, but the £50 promotional offer is not available to under-13s.

Is the Santander £50 offer worth doing?

If you're eligible, yes – it's a fairly straightforward £50 incentive.

You need to put £50 into the account, but that money isn't a fee or a payment you lose. Provided you meet the terms and keep the account open, Santander adds another £50.

The main thing to check is that you haven't already held a qualifying Santander 1|2|3 Mini account during the promotional period and that you remember to pay in the £50 within the 31-day deadline.
