What Is Pitstop?
Pitstop is a free UK motorway rewards app designed to encourage drivers to stop at participating service stations by offering points, discounts and freebies.
Unlike traditional loyalty schemes, where you usually need to spend money to earn rewards, Pitstop can award points simply for visiting an eligible motorway service station.
For example, you could stop to use the toilets, stretch your legs or take a break from driving and still earn points towards your next free snack or drink.
It's particularly useful for anyone who regularly travels long distances, although even occasional motorway users can benefit from the free welcome points.
What Can You Get With Pitstop Points?
Pitstop offers a changing selection of rewards, including free food, drinks, discounts and other promotional offers.
One of the best rewards we've spotted is a free KitKat Chunky for just 25 points, redeemable at participating WHSmith stores within Moto and Roadchef motorway services.
Here are some examples of rewards that have been available:
| Reward | Points needed |
|---|---|
| Free KitKat Chunky at WHSmith | 25 points |
| Free LEON hash brown with qualifying purchase | 50 points |
| Free Costa flavoured syrup with qualifying purchase | 50 points |
| Free Coco di Mama garlic bread with qualifying purchase | 50 points |
| Free Chozen Noodle spring rolls with qualifying purchase | 50 points |
Some rewards are completely free, while others require an additional purchase. Always check the conditions before redeeming your points.
The free KitKat offer is particularly appealing because it has been available without needing to spend anything else.
With 200 free welcome points, you could theoretically claim eight 25-point rewards, although individual offers may have redemption limits.
How Do You Earn More Pitstop Points?
The welcome bonus isn't the only way to earn points.
Pitstop's main purpose is to reward drivers for visiting participating motorway service stations, making it possible to continue building your balance after you've spent your initial 200 points.
1. Stop at participating motorway services
You can earn points when you visit eligible service stations operated by companies including Moto, Roadchef, Extra and Welcome Break.
At some locations, Pitstop uses automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) to identify when your registered vehicle arrives.
At participating Welcome Break locations, you may need to check in manually through the app.
Some service stations offer around 50 points per eligible visit, although the amount can vary.
You don't necessarily need to buy anything. Even a quick stop for a toilet break could qualify for points.
2. Rate motorway service stations
Pitstop also allows users to leave ratings for service stations they've visited.
Eligible ratings can provide additional opportunities to earn points while helping other drivers choose where to stop.
3. Refer friends and family
Pitstop operates a referral scheme that allows users to share their own referral codes.
New users can receive bonus points for joining through a valid code, while the person referring them may also receive a reward.
If you're signing up for the first time, don't forget to use our code for an extra 100 points.
4. Complete partner offers
The app also features promotional offers from other brands, with opportunities to earn additional points.
These can include shopping, insurance and other services.
As always, we'd recommend only taking advantage of these offers if they're genuinely useful, rather than spending money simply to collect more points.
Which Motorway Service Stations Accept Pitstop?
Pitstop works at participating motorway service stations across the UK, including locations operated by:
- Moto
- Roadchef
- Welcome Break
- Extra
Not every location will necessarily offer the same rewards or points.
The app includes a journey planner that allows you to check participating locations along your route, see what facilities are available and find out which stops offer points.
You can also check useful information such as restaurants, electric vehicle charging, toilets, accessibility and other facilities.
This makes Pitstop particularly handy when planning a longer journey.
Do You Need to Spend Money to Use Pitstop?
No. Pitstop is free to download, and you don't need to pay a subscription.
One of its biggest advantages is that qualifying service station visits can earn points without requiring a purchase.
You can then exchange those points for rewards, including selected freebies that don't require any additional spending.
However, some promotional rewards do require you to purchase another product, so it's important to read the conditions.
For example, a free KitKat requiring no additional purchase is different from receiving a free side dish when buying a full meal.
Do Pitstop Points Expire?
According to the scheme information reviewed, Pitstop points currently don't expire while your account remains open and the scheme continues.
This is particularly useful for occasional motorway users who might only visit service stations a handful of times each year.
You can collect points on one journey and save them until your next eligible stop.
However, Pitstop points aren't cash. You can't withdraw them to your bank account, and the rewards available to redeem can change.
Is the Pitstop App Legit?
Pitstop is a genuine UK motorway rewards app with a functioning points and rewards scheme.
We tested the sign-up process ourselves and found that new users received 100 welcome points, with another 100 points available when using a referral code.
The app is designed to encourage people to visit participating motorway services, where retailers can benefit from increased footfall and potential purchases.
For drivers, the incentive is straightforward: earn points from journeys you're already making and exchange them for rewards.
It's worth being aware that the app may use your vehicle registration and location information to identify qualifying visits. You should review its privacy policy before registering.
Is Pitstop Worth Downloading?
We think Pitstop is worth trying, particularly while the 200-point welcome offer is available.
The biggest attraction is that you don't necessarily have to spend anything to earn or redeem points.
Even if you only use motorway service stations occasionally, collecting a free snack or drink during a journey is a nice little bonus.
And if you're someone who regularly travels for work, commutes long distances or spends plenty of time on UK motorways, there's even more potential to build up points through eligible visits.
Just remember that the available rewards can change, and it's not worth making unnecessary purchases simply to earn extra points.
Can You Redeem Pitstop Rewards From Home?
Yes! We tested Pitstop ourselves in October 2026 and successfully exchanged 25 points for a free KitKat Chunky voucher while sitting at home, nowhere near a motorway service station.
The app immediately deducted our points and issued a voucher that could be activated to display a scannable barcode.
Once activated, the barcode was valid for just 10 minutes, so we'd recommend waiting until you're at the checkout of a participating WHSmith motorway service store before displaying it.
Although you can claim a voucher remotely, you'll still need to redeem it at an eligible retailer. We haven't yet tested whether a screenshot of the barcode can be used by another person or whether Pitstop restricts redemptions to the account holder.
