    My Side Gig Rating
    4.2/5
Our rating for Vela based on ease of use, earning potential, trust, and overall usefulness for users. Vela is a receipt rewards app that allows users to earn points from everyday spending by scanning receipts, connecting email accounts, or linking payment cards. The ability to automatically track purchases makes it one of the more convenient receipt-scanning apps available, although free users have monthly redemption limits which means rewards can take time to build up.

If you already shop regularly, Vela is a receipt rewards app that lets you turn your everyday spending into points and free gift cards.

The app rewards you for the things you already buy by allowing you to scan receipts, connect your email, or link your payment card. New users can currently claim a welcome bonus of 5,000, 10,000 or 20,000 points, worth £5, £10 or £20 when they complete the required steps.

Unlike traditional cashback apps where you need to activate offers before shopping, Vela works in the background and rewards your actual purchases.

    What is Vela?

Vela is a receipt-scanning rewards app that helps you earn points from your everyday shopping.

The idea is simple: you shop as normal, Vela recognises your purchases, and you earn points that can be exchanged for gift cards.

The app focuses on rewarding what you buy rather than just how much you spend. Certain healthier and more responsible products can earn additional bonus points, meaning your shopping choices can affect how quickly you build rewards.

    How does Vela work?

There are three main ways to earn points with Vela:

    Scan your receipts

The easiest way to get started is by uploading your receipts.

Simply take a photo of your receipt after shopping and Vela will convert it into points.

    It works with receipts from:

    • Supermarkets

    • Convenience stores

    • Independent retailers

    • Restaurants

    • Other everyday purchases

There is no need to use a loyalty card or activate offers beforehand. Just shop normally and scan your receipt.

    Connect your email

If you receive digital receipts, you can connect your email account and let Vela automatically find your purchases.

    Supported email providers include:

    • Gmail

    • Outlook

Once connected, Vela can automatically detect eligible receipts from your inbox, meaning you can earn points without manually uploading every purchase.

    Link your payment card

You can also connect your bank card and earn points automatically when shopping with partnered retailers.

This means you simply pay as normal and eligible purchases can be tracked in the background.

How to claim the Vela welcome bonus

New users can receive 5,000, 10,000 or 20,000 points, worth:

    • ⭐ 5,000 points = £5

    • ⭐ 10,000 points = £10

    • ⭐ 20,000 points = £20

    To unlock your bonus:

    1. Download the Vela app

    2. Sign up using a referral code

    3. Complete your profile

    4. Scan your first receipt

All of these steps appear inside the initial points section when you join, so it is easy to follow.

How do you redeem Vela points?

Once you have collected enough points, you can exchange them for gift cards.

    To claim a reward:

    1. Open the Vela app

    2. Select Rewards

    3. Scroll down to see available gift cards

    4. Choose your preferred retailer

Vela offers gift cards for many popular UK retailers, as well as restaurants and experiences.

Once you request a voucher, it can take up to 24 hours to arrive. When ready, it will appear in the Rewards section in the top-right corner of the app.

How much can you earn with Vela?

The amount you earn depends on how often you shop and how many receipts Vela can track.

For free users, there is a limit of:

    • 1 gift card redemption per day

    • Maximum £15 worth of gift cards per month

Because of this, we think the best approach is usually to save your points and claim a £15 gift card rather than withdrawing smaller amounts.

    Is Vela free?

Yes. The standard Vela membership is completely free and allows you to earn and withdraw your rewards.

    The free plan includes:

✅ Daily spend tracking (with limits)
✅ Redeem 1 voucher per day
    ✅ Connect 1 email account
✅ 1 daily spin to boost your points

For most people, the free version is enough.

Vela Plus – Is the £5.99 membership worth it?

Vela also offers a premium membership called Vela Plus, costing £5.99 per month.

    This unlocks:

    ✅ Unlimited spend tracking
✅ 2x points on every processed transaction
✅ Redeem up to 3 vouchers per day
✅ Connect up to 5 email accounts
    ✅ 3 daily spins

For casual users, we don't think paying is necessary. The free version lets you earn rewards without spending anything.

Vela Plus is mainly aimed at people who use the app heavily and want to maximise their earning potential.
