FAQ’s
-
Chip is a UK‑based “wealth app” for savings and investments: it allows users to save money, open savings accounts (including ISAs, instant‑access accounts, prize‑savings), and invest via Stocks & Shares ISAs or general investment accounts.
The idea is to make saving/investing more accessible: you connect your bank via “open banking” and choose savings or investment options via the app.
Chip handles the interface and account‑management; actual deposits and investments are held via regulated partner firms.
-
Chip itself is not a bank.
The company behind the app is Chip Financial Ltd (registered in England & Wales).
Because it’s not a bank, Chip does not operate branches, issue bank cards, or offer ATM access.
-
The savings accounts you open via Chip are provided by ClearBank, a fully authorised UK‑regulated bank.
For investment accounts, another custodian — Seccl Custody Limited — holds investments separately from Chip’s own assets.
-
Savings accounts are FSCS‑protected. Funds deposited via Chip into savings accounts with ClearBank are eligible for protection under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) — up to a certain limit.
Regulation: Chip (via Chip Financial Ltd) is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under its firm reference number.
Safety measures: The app uses bank‑grade encryption, requires a PIN (and optionally biometric protection) to access, and deposits are held separately from Chip’s own funds when in transit — a process called “safeguarding”.
-
Email: For general support, contact Chip at hello@getchip.uk.
In‑app chat / support form: From the Chip app itself — go to the Profile tab → “Contact Us” (or use the chatbot). This is often the quickest way to get help.
