If you hold savings with Zopa, they are protected up to £85,000 under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).
Their mobile‑app banking uses standard security measures (PIN, biometric login, optional extra verification) to protect account access.
Does Zopa accept “bad credit”?
Zopa does consider credit applications even if you’ve had credit struggles before. According to one card‑review source, if you’ve “struggled to get approved for credit elsewhere,” Zopa may still consider your application.
However, like most lenders, final approval will depend on a full credit check (a “hard search”) when you formally apply.
Zopa may be more flexible than some lenders, but “bad credit” does not guarantee approval, and how “bad” is defined likely matters.
What are the drawbacks of Zopa?
The transition away from peer‑to‑peer (P2P) lending: Zopa closed its P2P-investment business in 2021, meaning those interested in investing via P2P can no longer do so.
With credit cards: although the card has useful features, the representative APR is quite high, making it potentially expensive if balances are not cleared monthly.
As with many digital‑only banks: no physical branches, so services like cash or cheque deposits are not available; everything is managed via the app. (This is also a limitation with their new current‑account product.)
