What is Monzo Billsback?

Monzo has introduced a new perk for its paid account holders called Billsback. As of 1 October 2025, customers on Monzo’s Extra, Perks, or Max plans can have a chance to get some of their bills or subscriptions reimbursed, up to £150 per bill, as a “prize-draw” style reward.

In short: if you pay an eligible bill or subscription from your Monzo account, Monzo may “cover” (i.e. refund) it, but only for a certain number of bills each month, chosen randomly.

Below is a breakdown of how it works, what the catches are, and whether it’s “worth it.”

    How Billsback Works:

    • Each month, Monzo will randomly pick 1,000+ bills or subscriptions from among all eligible ones across its user base to reimburse.

    • If one of your bills is selected, Monzo refunds what you paid, up to £150 per bill. If your bill was less than £150, you get the full amount; if it was more, you’ll just get the £150 cap.

    • “Eligible bills” are defined by Monzo; at launch, they support over 300 providers, spanning utilities, subscriptions, insurance, broadband, mobile, streaming services, etc.

    • The refunded amount goes back to the same place from which the bill was paid (main account, Pot, joint account, etc.).

    • You’ll be notified in the Monzo app (and via push) if a bill you paid is “won” under Billsback, and there’s a section in the app to track your “wins.”

    Important constraints:

    • Your bill or subscription payment must be > £1.

    • The payment must be from a supported merchant/provider (i.e. on Monzo’s “eligible” list) and must be processed in a way Monzo accepts (e.g. debit card, direct debit).

    • Some payment types are excluded — e.g. standing orders typically don’t count.

    • Virtual card payments (from Pots) are eligible.

    • For joint accounts, if either account holder has an Extra, Perks or Max plan, joint bills are eligible.

    • You can opt out of Billsback via the app if you don’t want to take part.

    Who Can Get Billsback?

Only customers who have one of Monzo’s paid plans are included:

    • Monzo Extra

    • Monzo Perks

    • Monzo Max

If you're on the free Monzo account, or older “Pro” or “Plus” upgrades, you’re not eligible for Billsback.

If you're on a joint account with someone, joint‐account payments qualify as long as one of you holds a qualifying plan.

    Is It Worth It?

That depends largely on how you value the other features of Monzo’s paid plans. Billsback is not guaranteed savings — it's a lottery-style incentive.

    Pros:

    • It gives you a chance to recoup bills you’re already paying, up to £150 per bill.

    • It might make using Monzo more attractive for bills you already pay by card.

    • If you were already paying for Perks or Extra for other reasons, this is a “free bonus.”

    Cons / considerations:

    • The odds of winning are low — for many, you'd probably never “win” or only win rarely.

    • If you pay a lot for a paid Monzo plan just for Billsback, the ROI is uncertain.

    • Compare with other banks or services that offer guaranteed cashback on bills. Some accounts (such as Santander Edge, Zopa Biscuit) give more reliable cashback on core household bills.

    • Because only certain merchants/providers are eligible, not all your bills will be covered.

    • Refunds (if you win) only go up to £150 per bill.

In short: treat Billsback as a bonus, not a reliable income or saving tool. If the rest of the perks of Extra, Perks, or Max suit you anyway, Billsback is a nice addition, but not likely something you'd pay for on its own.
